I have one small gripe today, they have started moving extra seating out on to the beach, this usually forms a natural dance floor. I am completely sure that people eating do not want sand kicked onto their plates and people dancing don’t need the dirty looks from the people eating. I know you have been quiet lately guys but stick with it, you don’t need 2 extra tables on the sand, save that space for when you are packed with people going crazy.

Right now lets talk about something I always seem to be speaking about. The damn road! Fix it, fix that first 20 metres with the 30cm drop from the road to the sand, it’s easy and cheap to do, the rest is fine, just that one small patch which almost took the exhaust off my bike tonight……
I really love this party, it’s local to my house, 3 minutes on my scooter, 30 seconds on my CBR when I’m pissed up. If you do the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan then I really suggest you do the Moon Set Party 2 days later as a cool down.

I got to the party fairly early, around midnight and there were more people in the parking area than there were at the whole party last time! So I took a few pictures whilst things were warming up, it’s a problem at the Moon Set Party that once it gets busy there is little room to get good pictures.

The DJ played a late starter with some laid back ambient trance throughout the early part of the night, switching over to some heavy tribal stuff once people decided it was time to dance, a sign of a good DJ, responding to the crowd instead of trying to drive them and it worked a treat, people were definitely having a good time…..
I found a very strange individual floating around the bonfire at around 2am, despite my best efforts I just could not get a clear photograph of him, he somehow managed to stay out of focus for every shot. I found this a little suspicious so approached him for a quick interview.

He seemed a little disturbed by the fact I had cornered him, and eventually divulged that his name is Jonny and he is an undercover brain surgeon. I asked him for an interview but he swiftly declined, instead he wishes us to print the following prepared statement:

I had just finished an operation in a nearby private hospital and on the way back to my villa I took a wrong turning and found myself dancing around a fire to some mind altering tribal trance. Oh dear, I still had my instruments that I just used to complete a brain transplant so I thought I could continue my work when I found my patient was also at the party. Luckily I had some spare intergalactic neurons that I fused into his matrix receiving nodes. My wife must wonder where I am. Oh and by the way, visit my website at TribalFusion

So a cool Moon Set Party this time around, we even managed to grab some sound for you, there are a couple of short .mp3 available in the download section. Next time I’m going to record Charlie, the Thai bar tender who speaks English with a cockney accent, it’s very strange to hear!

Once again the tide was running very high, swallowing half the beach that is usually accessible to party goers, this should change in a couple of months and return to normal.
The food was looking fantastic last night with a buffet set up at the back of the seating area, maybe this was why so many people chose to sit and socialize instead of making use of the dance area……
One thing that was mentioned to me last night by one of the people I met was how hard it is to actually find the party. After considering it I have to agree, it is well sign posted until you get to the beach and then it’s a case of following the bass until you find the party, some kind of sign at the parking area would really help.

I have said it before, it’s a hell of a shame this party doesn’t get more support, Pirates Bar is a great place for a party and definitely one of my favourites.

The DJ was bang on as usual, playing a heady mix of psycho trance with some pretty wild rock guitar driven sequences although the fact that the tide was in and very high meant the dance floor (AKA beach) was a lot smaller than usual……
It really is a shame this party isn’t supported more, ok it’s a fair journey from Haad Rin to get to it, so I guess a lot of the people who stay there don’t even try but it is well worth the effort.

Pirates bar is a great location, the natural cove and rock formations form a fantastic backdrop for the party and on the right night this is possibly the best party on the island.
